STEM Career Pathways in Engineering

Many of our students are familiar with traditional STEM careers such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, accountancy and economics.  Over the course of the spring term we have four after school events for students to learn about more diverse careers, through presentations by industry experts currently working in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Thirty-five students from KS4 and KS5 year groups welcomed Dr Yuchang Wang and Mr Phil Parrish into the St. Bernadette Centre on Wednesday January 22nd.  Dr Wang is an Artificial Intelligence research and development engineer who has recently designed a national grid for smart charging electric vehicles.  She spoke with tremendous enthusiasm for her love of learning through the application of mathematics to engineer solutions that benefit many.  Mr Parrish is an English graduate and the communications director for the company they both work for, ENZEN.  Together they shared their own career pathways from A-level to current roles and the importance of being part of multidisciplinary teams in commercial and industrial STEM employment.
